A few months ago, we released all new versions of the desktop Outlook add-ins. These new versions were marked as beta v8.0 and today, we’re excited to announce that these versions are released out of beta.
As is our custom, we kept the new version 8.0 of all our desktop add-ins in public beta for over 60 days. With the one exception last week where a Microsoft Outlook security update went out that broke several add-ins, there were no major changes required.
So, we’re happy to officially release v8.0 of all our desktop add-ins!
These versions have been specifically tailored to Outlook 2021, Outlook 2019 and Outlook 2016 (including of course Microsoft 365). You can learn more about the other features in our previous blog article about v8.0.
Speaking of the Outlook security update that broke several add-ins, we are still researching the issue but we have learned that we used to be able to open say, a Word document, make some changes, then print it – without saving the document (which could be locked). After the security update, we can no longer do this, meaning that we can’t change margins or make modifications to the email header (like showing exact email addresses of the From or To fields). As mentioned, we are still working this issue.
Looking forward to next month, we will (finally) be able to turn on automatic updates for v8.0 so that if another security update occurs, we can quickly fix it and get the word out to you to update it. Unlike the transition from v6.3 to v7.1 (back in 2019), we expect to be able to automatically migrate/update you from v7.1 to v8.0 by using the Check For Updates button on the About page. Again, more on this next month.
