Version 7.1 of all our add-ins will be affected by security changes going into effect soon. Back in October of last year, we mentioned that security concerns are at an all-time high and Sperry Software is no exception to these requirements which are sometimes imposed by other institutions (e.g., Microsoft, credit card transaction processors, large corporate customers and others).
We are planning on upgrading our security system to keep pace with industry standards (in particular PCI/DSS). As part of that upgrade, we are going to force all communication with the sperrysoftware.com server to be over “https://” and not “http://”.
Version 7.1 of all our desktop add-ins use some form of “http://” during communications to our server (ironically to check for new versions and other functions).
Are you still using v7.1?
There is still time to automatically check for updates. But, beginning in the next two weeks, we will flip the switch to force “https://”. Once this happens, if you are still using v7.1 it may be impossible for you to automatically upgrade. Of course, you can still do a manual upgrade to install the newest version (v8.1).
